For the year 2025-26

The Indian Grain Storage Management and Research Institute (IGMRI), under the Department of Food and Public Distribution, continues to spearhead advanced research and development activities to support the scientific storage and pest management of foodgrains distributed through the Public Distribution System (PDS). These R&D efforts are aligned with national food security goals and focus on enhancing the safety, shelf-life, and quality of foodgrains.

Scientific Storage: Smart Warehousing through Sensor-Based Monitoring

Modernize grain storage infrastructure and adopt real-time monitoring systems, IGMRI is currently undertaking a pioneering study on Sensor-Based Monitoring of Foodgrains in Storage Depots, commonly referred to as Smart Warehousing.

Objective

To develop a digital solution for continuous, real-time monitoring of storage conditions such as temperature, humidity, moisture content, and CO₂ levels inside foodgrain stacks.

Collaboration

The study is being conducted in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), with the aim of introducing smart, data-driven decision-making tools for better inventory and quality control.

Pest Control: Evaluation of Temprid SC Application Frequency

Another key R&D activity under implementation at IGMRI focuses on optimizing pesticide use for stored foodgrains.

Study Title

Assessment of Application Frequency of Temprid SC (Imidacloprid 21% + Beta-Cyfluthrin 10.50%) on Stacks Containing Foodgrains.

Objective

To scientifically determine the most effective frequency and method of application of Temprid SC, a combination insecticide, for controlling storage pests while ensuring food safety.
